Welcome to the Marion County Public Health Department

All day, every day, we’re working for you. Here’s how.

Chances are you’re not aware of everything we do for you — from sanitation and communicable disease control to restaurant inspections, housing code compliance, prenatal care coordination and more.

We’ve served the residents and visitors of Marion County, Indiana for over 100 years, including the City of Indianapolis, Beech Grove, Lawrence, Speedway and Southport. Our mission is to promote physical, mental and environmental health, and to prevent and protect against disease, injury and disability through the Public Health Administration and its two service bureaus — Bureau of Environmental Health (BEH) and the Bureau of Population Health (BPH).

Led by Director and Chief Medical Officer, Virginia A. Caine, M.D., Marion County Public Health is a nationally accredited leader identifying health priorities, mobilizing resources and maintaining healthy, safe conditions for all.
